YOU BOUGHT ANOTHER KITCHEN APPLIANCE? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
I admit it. I may have a problem when it comes to wanting to make everything from scratch in our home kitchen. So to add to the waffle pan, the chocolate moulds, the mini deep fryer, the food processor, the blender, and the sous vide (just to name a few things), we “suddenly” had a Cuisinart ICE-100 ice cream machine.
Cue the exclamation of horror and barrage of questions from the husband.
To justify this purchase, I regaled the hubby with talk of the wonderful experimental flavours we could run and how we could invite friends to ice cream parties. It’d be good, home-made ice cream with fresh ingredients and real flavours. He rolled his eyes and snorted and promised me it would collect dust. He also lectured me on spending my money wisely.
2 years later, and he’s a true convert. It was the vanilla (his favourite flavour) that did it. (Hand scraped beans and pure extract will do that.) The ice cream parties did happen. We’ve certainly done some experimenting (pepper ice cream anyone?) But the fun thing was that the machine didn’t really collect dust (ok, but just for 3 months) Friends became converts who converted other friends and soon we moved on to a bigger machine that could handle the volume. (So essentially, my little expensive purchase became an even bigger expensive purchase. But this time the husband didn’t complain.)
“HONEY, I THINK YOU’VE REALLY GOT SOMETHING HERE.”
Emerged after a long tiring day of work when both of us were sitting around the table discussing how work was making us sweaty, grimy, irritable and grumpy. Especially with each other. We needed ice cream. We got ice cream. It made us happy. Happy enough to consider taking the biggest risk of our lives.
We started small and slow. Making ice cream for our friends and family. On many occasions, we’d deliver to someone, jubilant to have the ice cream after a long day at work. We’re delighted to hear when folks tell us our ice cream helped smooth a rough day or perked them up. When they tell us how happy their loved ones were when they received our ice cream as a birthday present. We’re grateful to have played a part in making people’s moments of joy complete – at weddings, housewarmings, and other celebrations.
GRAND AMBITION/OUR AIMS AND PRINCIPLES
From the start, our idea has been to create great, full-flavored, natural ice creams made from the best ingredients we can acquire. We strive for high quality, sincere goodness and exceptional ice cream.
Just as giving happiness with our ice cream is a driving principle, so is giving back. We support several charitable events and charities both with our presence and with donations.
We’re moving forward all the time. Looking for and learning about great food, creating new flavours, meeting people and building relationships.
We strive to keep things creative and fun. It’s work, but it’s fun work and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
